Cat vaccines

Cats are susceptible to many contagious disease mostly caused by viruses. Fortunately, we have vaccines for prevention.

FVRCP Vaccine

For the prevention of Rhinotracheitis, Caliciviruses and Panleukopenia.

Rhinotracheitis is a severe upper respiratory infection. The virus is airborne and very contagious to the feline species. Most cases cause severe congestion in the nasal passages and the mucus membranes of the eyes and lethargy.

Caliciviruses is very similar to Rhinotracheitis causing a range of diseases, from a mild almost asymptomatic infection, to life-threatening pneumonia. Most cases show only evidence of ulcers in the mouth and tongue, congestion in nasal passages and mucus membranes of the eyes.

Panleukopenia is a highly contagious disease characterized by a low white cell blood count causing susceptibility to further disease and illness with a high mortality rate.

Feline Leukemia Vaccine

Prevents the transmission of the disease Leukemia. The disease caused by this virus is a form of cancer of the blood cells called lymphocytes (white blood cells).

Feline Rabies Vaccine

Prevents the transmission of the Rabies virus. There is no treatment for rabies in cats, causing a high risk of transmission to humans, and eventually, death.

Canine Vaccines

Parvovirus/Distemper/Adenovirus (Type 2)/Parainfluenza Vaccine

Parvovirus is potentially fatal and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and dehydration.  Distemper can affect the central nervous system.  Adenovirus (Type 2) and Parainfluenza can cause respiratory symptoms.

Leptospirosis Vaccine

Infected dogs and wild animals such as raccoons, skunks and rodents carry the disease in their urine. A dog can become infected when they come into contact with infected animals or areas where infected animals have contaminated the environment with their urine. Possible clinical signs are high fever and lethargy. It can progress to cause temporary and, sometimes permanent, liver and/or kidney failure. It is also transmissible to humans.

Bordetella Vaccine

Prevents the transmission of what is also known as kennel cough. This is an upper respiratory virus that causes a severe cough that can turn into pneumonia. It is airborne and highly contagious.  This vaccine is particularly important if your dog is going to be in contact with other dogs – for example, on walks, at the dog park, at puppy training classes, at doggy day care and/or boarding facilities.

Lyme Vaccine

This vaccine helps prevent tick-borne Lyme disease. The vaccine is especially important for the dogs that love to camp, hunt, go to parks and forests, or travel to different parts of the country, especially near the Toronto and Kingston area.  Lyme is also found in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. To read more about Lyme disease click here.

Canine Rabies Vaccine

Prevents the transmission of the Rabies virus. There is no treatment for rabies in dogs, causing a high risk of transmission to humans, and eventually, death.
