Every pet owner should have a basic pet first aid kit on hand. Hopefully it will never be needed, but it’s best to be prepared in the event of an injury or medical emergency. Keep the supplies in a container that allows for easy organization. Replace supplies as they are used and periodically verify for expired products (ex, peroxide, alcohol wipes, antibiotic ointment).

- Muzzle (or extra rolling gauze to act as a muzzle)

- Digital thermometer (rectal) – your pet’s temperature should not rise above 39.5 degrees or below 37.5 degrees
- Lubricating jelly, for example Vasoline (to lubricate thermometer)
- Rubbing alcohol
- Antiseptic wipes
- Hydrogen peroxide (3% strength) – to induce vomiting
- Antibacterial soap
- Sterile rinse solution (saline, to flush a wound or rinse eyes)
- Pen light
- Blanket for pet transport
- Q-Tips
- Adhesive tape
- Gauze squares (size will vary depending on the size of your pet)
- Gauze roll
- Stretchy bandage
- Cotton balls
- Non-stick sterile wound dressing (Adaptic)
- Cotton roll
- Blunt end scissors (for bandages)
- Tweezers
- Triple antibiotic ointment
- Corn syrup (for diabetic pets or those with low blood sugar)
