Pet insurance

With the constant changes in the economy, we do want our clients to be informed about pet insurance so that they are better prepared to handle the unexpected expenses if their pet gets sick.
There are now many pet insurance companies available. We recommend looking into what type of coverage you are interested in as some companies offer strictly accident/illness coverage while others offer wellness and prevention coverage.  It ultimately comes down to how much coverage you are looking for your pet and what price range you want.

We have heard good feedback from our current clients about Petline (previously Petsecure) and Trupanion insurance companies.  A few other common companies our clients use are Pets+Us, Petplan, and OVMA Pet health insurance.

Examples of questions to consider when looking for pet insurance are:

1. What is covered and what is not covered?
2. Are there coverage limits per incident, per year or per lifetime?
3. Is the deductible per incident or per year? Are there deductible options?
4. What is the claim turnaround time?
5. Is there a waiting period before coverage starts?
6. Does the coverage include exam, recheck and/or emergency fees?
7. Are taxes covered?
8. Is there dental care coverage?
9. Are hereditary conditions covered?
10. Is there alternative therapy, behavioral therapy or medical device coverage?

We hope you find this information helpful!
